To map out the location of wetlands and surface water sources which are considered to be of international importance.

This project is part of Land and Water Division of FAO and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn, Germany.

Dataset consists of the official name of Ramsar sites across the world. Data covers 2,200 Ramsar sites, occupying 2.1 million square kilometers.

Data is obtained through satellite imagery and monitoring.
