A recent collaboration with Saha Global illustrates how existing data can inform more equitable service delivery.
Working with data from over 19,000 communities (representing approximately 4 million people), we analyzed settlement patterns across Ghana to better understand where safe water infrastructure is most needed.
Using Project W-sourced datasets, we categorized communities by size and distribution, from small homesteads to larger settlements, to identify the quantity and population of last-mile communities across Ghana. This enabled us to estimate the number and type of water points required to expand access efficiently.
This approach helped make previously overlooked populations visible in planning processes, supporting more targeted investment decisions and reducing the cost of expanding service coverage.
