Upstream protected land measures the percentage of total water supply that originates from protected ecosystems. Modified land use can affect the health of freshwater ecosystems and have severe downstream impacts on both water quality and quantity.
Dataset contains: shape length, shape area, basin ID, country, basin name, water withdrawal, water consumption and percentage of total water supply that originates from protected ecosystems. Global upstream protected land is categorized as: high, high-medium, medium-low, low and extremely low. Data focuses on protected lands, unclassified proposed lands, breeding centers, municipal parks, cultural and historic sites. Marine areas are excluded.
