It presents data on sanitation situation with information showing that unsafe sanitation is responsible for 775,000 deaths annually, 5.5% of deaths in low income countries result from unsafe sanitation, 46% of the world do not have access to safely managed sanitation, 6% still participate in open defaecation, and unsafe sanitation has a significant impact on childhood stunting.
Open and collaborative project by a team of researchers forming part of the Global Change data lab, partnering with the Y Combinator and Oxford University with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The reported data have been collated between 1990 and 2017.
