Data produced by the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) and the City University of New York (CUNY) Institute for Demographic Research (CIDR). Data provided for 1990, 2000 and 2015.
This dataset entails settlement points, total population, country id, longitude, latitude, urban extent, land area in km2, quasi-urban, and rural area.
The dataset is constructed by overlaying (i) high-resolution elevation data (to delineate the “low elevation coastal zone,” e.g. ≤ 5 m or ≤ 10 m above sea level) with (ii) gridded population data and urban/rural classification (urban proxy) layers
