The MRC supports a basin-wide planning process based on principles of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
The dataset contains the Mekong Basin network, its reaches, the area covered in kilometers, its source, countries it passes through, and the available plant and fish species estimates, among other information. The data covers a distance of nearly 5,000 km from the source on the Tibetan Plateau in China to the Mekong Delta, through China, Myanmar, Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Viet Nam.
The data was obtained using satellite imagery.
