The data was dissolved on level 3 for the Pfafstetter coding system. See http://www.hydrosheds.org/images/inpages/HydroBASINS_TechDoc_v1c.pdf for detailed documentation on this hierarchical system of attributing basin flow order and relationships.
The data set contains major basins in the Mekong, their locations, names and area in square km.
The dataset was collected by delineating drainage basin boundaries from hydrologically corrected elevation data (HydroSHEDS and Hydro1K).
