Dataset Objective

To show the hydrological basins and sub-basins in Africa.

Context

Africa is home to the longest river in the world -the Nile- and other major rivers like the Congo and the Niger. This layer shows the official boundaries of river (sub-)basins in Africa (approved and used by the FAO)

What is included

The dataset contains the numerical code and name of the major basin, area of the major basin in square km, numerical code and name of the sub-basin, area of the sub-basin in square km (SUB_AREA) and the numerical code of the sub-basin towards which the sub-basin flows.

Collection Methods

Data was collected through satellite images.
