To show average monthly night time land surface temperatures.
Yellow indicates the warmest temperatures (up to 45°C), light blue shows the coldest temperatures (down to -25°C) and black means no data is available for that area.
Data contains temperature patterns of the top millimeter of the land surface consisting of: bare land, snow or ice cover, urban areas, cropland and forest canopy.
Land surface temperature is measured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite.
