To provide a representation of urban areas and time series population estimates.
The GRUMP project was developed to provide consistent, global spatial data on human settlements and the urban/rural distribution of population — allowing researchers and policymakers to analyze urban extent, population distribution, and human settlement patterns worldwide.
This dataset contains city id, country, largest city id, the extent of the nighttime lights, approximated urban extents (circles), population density, and settlement areas.
Data was collected using satellites imageries.
