Dataset Objective

To provide baseline information on the total mangroves area covered in square kilometers across different regions.

Context

This dataset covers the period of 2000 to 2016. This dataset is part of the Global SDG Indicator database compiled through the UN System in preparation for the Secretary-General's annual report on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

What is included

This dataset contains the global locations, geographic area name and code, parent geographic area name, geographic area type, earliest and latest years, available years, and the mangrove areas covered in square kilometers between 2000-2016 for different regions.

Collection Methods

Data was collected using satellite images.
