To describe an enhanced, evidence-based cascading training program for integrated lymphedema management in the Upper West Region of Ghana
The research addresses the significant burden of lymphedema and hydrocele in the Upper West Region of Ghana, emphasizing the challenges posed by LF. It provides context by discussing the global prevalence of LF and the consequences of its sequelae. The study is situated within the framework of the Global Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (GPELF) and aims to enhance self-care practices in resource-poor settings where chronic lymphedema is prevalent.
Tables: Frequency of washing affected limb with soap and water in the advised manner, at baseline and at the end evaluation; Lymphedema morbidity prevention/management techniques among lymphatic filariasis patients, at baseline and at the end evaluation; Treatment strategies for acute attacks, at baseline and at the end evaluation Sample size approx. 100-200.
Data collection methods include in-depth interviews (IDIs) and a questionnaire survey. Qualitative data are analyzed thematically using MaxQda 2020, while survey data are analyzed using EpiInfo 3.5.4.
