To provide global administrative boundary maps and downloadable spatial data for countries and their administrative subdivisions
GADM (Global Administrative Areas) is a global geospatial database that provides high-resolution administrative boundary data for nearly every country in the world. The Maps section allows users to browse country-specific maps that display administrative divisions at multiple levels, while the Data section offers downloadable GIS datasets in formats compatible with common geographic information systems.
The GADM Maps page contains a comprehensive collection of country-level administrative maps covering virtually every sovereign state and many territories worldwide. For each country, users can view maps showing national and subnational administrative divisions (such as states, provinces, districts, counties, municipalities, and equivalent units, depending on the country's administrative hierarchy). The maps provide a visual representation of administrative boundaries and are linked to the corresponding GADM datasets, which include polygon boundaries, administrative names, unique identifiers, and multiple levels of administrative units.
GADM compiles and harmonizes administrative boundary information from national mapping agencies, government datasets, non-governmental organizations, and other publicly available geographic sources. The data are standardized into a consistent global database with hierarchical administrative levels for each country, allowing users to browse maps online or download boundary datasets for integration into GIS and spatial analysis tools.
