Dataset
The objective of this research is to identify and delineate human settlement areas in Niger based on building density observed in satellite imagery.
The research aims to provide accurate spatial data on settlement extents in Niger to support various development initiatives, including infrastructure planning, population estimation, and resource allocation.
The GRID3 NER - Settlement Extents v3.0 consists of a geographic representation of settlements in Niger, in two forms: 1) settlement polygons, and 2) spatial points depicting the centroids of settled grid cells at 3-arc seconds (or ~100 meters) contained within settlement polygons. Both layers include attributes as described in the codebooks. Data inputs and methodology are described in data release notes.
Satellite imagery and building footprint data (e.g., Digitize Africa), refined to accurately reflect built-up areas
