Dataset
The objective of this research is to delineate and classify human settlement extents in Rwanda using satellite imagery to provide crucial data for urban planning, development initiatives, and demographic analysis.
The research focuses on characterizing human settlement patterns in Rwanda, distinguishing between different types of settlements based on building density and area size. It utilizes satellite imagery analysis to identify areas with human habitation, providing valuable information for development planning, infrastructure projects, and demographic analysis in Rwanda.
The GRID3 RWA - Settlement Extents v3.0 consists of a geographic representation of settlements in Rwanda, in two forms: 1) settlement polygons, and 2) spatial points depicting the centroids of settled grid cells at 3-arc seconds (or ~100 meters) contained within settlement polygons. Both layers include attributes as described in the codebooks. Data inputs and methodology are described in data release notes.
