Dataset
The objective of this research is to map and classify settlement extents across Burkina Faso using satellite imagery analysis, providing detailed information on settlement types and their distribution. The research aims to support development initiatives, infrastructure planning, and demographic analysis in Burkina Faso.
The research focuses on utilizing satellite imagery analysis to identify areas with human settlement across Burkina Faso. It classifies settlement extents based on their degree of urbanization and provides probability estimates to assess the reliability of the detected settlements. This dataset serves as a valuable resource for understanding urbanization dynamics, supporting development planning efforts, and conducting demographic analysis in Burkina Faso.
This version consists of a geographic representation of settlements in Burkina Faso, in two forms: 1) settlement polygons, and 2) spatial points depicting the centroids of settled grid cells at 3-arc seconds (or ~100 meters) contained within settlement polygons. Both layers include attributes as described in the codebooks. Data inputs and methodology are described in data release notes.
Derived building counts and settlement polygons from open data. See release notes for further methodology details.
