To provide accessible and interactive information on cholera cases and deaths in Africa during the 2022–2023 outbreak period to support disease surveillance, public health awareness, and epidemic preparedness efforts.
The Cholera in Africa platform is part of the AI for Pandemic and Epidemic Preparedness and Response (AI4PEP) initiative. The platform compiles and visualizes cholera outbreak data in Africa using information obtained from the World Health Organization (WHO). The initiative aims to support global health preparedness and response through the application of artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches.
The platform provides an interactive dashboard containing country-level information on cholera outbreaks across Africa during the 2022–2023 period. It includes maps displaying the spatial distribution of reported cholera cases and deaths, downloadable datasets in CSV format, and interactive charts showing the number of cases, mortalities, cumulative cases, and cumulative mortalities over time. Users can select individual countries for comparison and explore temporal trends in cholera outbreaks. The platform also provides summary statistics on total reported cases and deaths across the continent.
The data presented on the platform are collected from the official website of the World Health Organization (WHO). The information is compiled into interactive dashboards and visualizations to facilitate monitoring of cholera outbreaks across Africa. The platform primarily functions as a data dissemination and visualization tool rather than generating original epidemiological data.
