To provide geospatial information on settlements and populated places in Benin to support humanitarian mapping, spatial analysis, and operational planning.
The dataset was developed to provide standardized settlement information, including harmonized place codes and the identification of administrative capitals, for use by humanitarian actors and partners.
The dataset represents towns and villages across Benin and includes harmonized settlement information and place codes (PCODEs). It contains geospatial information on populated places, including the identification and codification of departmental and communal capitals.
The dataset was developed using information from the Second Administrative Level Boundaries (SALB) Project and subsequently harmonized by OCHA ROWCA. The primary modification involved the harmonization of ROWCA PCODEs and the codification of administrative capitals to improve consistency and interoperability with other regional humanitarian datasets.
