To explore the modalities and likely main routes of geographic spread of cholera from endemic areas in eastern DRC.
Cholera is endemic along the Great Lakes Region, in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). From these endemic areas, also under perpetual conflicts, outbreaks spread to other areas.

Historical reconstruction (using secondary datasets) conducted to summarize major outbreak expansions of cholera since its introduction in eastern DRC in 1978 using queries on PubMed, Google and Google scholar. Study used “Cholera OR Vibrio cholerae” AND “Democratic Republic of the Congo” as keywords. Peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed articles published in English or French and reports from humanitarian agencies focused on the period 1970–2017 were searched. Only full texts that addressed the diffusion processes were considered.
