To provide a systematic map for global characterization and distribution of grassland types.
This dataset was collected to bridge the gap on the lack of systematic global characterization and distribution map for grassland types.
A global map that shows all the distributions of grassland, characteristics and types (a non-wetland formation, at least 10% vascular vegetation canopy cover, broad-leaved herbs (forbs) may have variable levels of cover and dominance, graminoids have at least 25% (but if < 25% cover, graminoids exceed that of other herbaceous and shrub cover), shrubs have < 25% canopy cover and trees).
The data was collected using satellite imagery.
