The Aqueduct Food tool assesses how water risks affect agriculture and food security at the country level. It provides a baseline assessment and projections for 2030 and 2050, helping policymakers and researchers understand current and future vulnerabilities in food production, trade, and nutrition.
Selected crops (rainfed and irrigated) with water risk indicators (e.g., water stress, drought, groundwater decline) and food security metrics like production, demand, trade, calories, and population at risk of hunger.
The dataset integrates basin-level water risk indicators (such as water stress, seasonal variability, drought, and groundwater decline) with global crop distribution data (MapSPAM) and country-level food system metrics from IFPRI’s IMPACT model. These data are spatially linked and aggregated to produce baseline conditions and projections for 2030 and 2050 under different climate and socio-economic scenarios
