To provide centralized access to GRID3 population datasets and services that support population mapping, demographic analysis, humanitarian planning, public health, infrastructure development, and disaster response across multiple countries.
The GRID3 Population search page is part of the GRID3 Data Hub and catalogs population-related geospatial resources produced by GRID3 and its partners, including WorldPop. The page enables users to discover and access population datasets, map services, feature services, image services, and image collections for multiple countries. Resources are searchable and can be filtered by data type, source, license, tags, categories, geographic location, and modification date.
At the time of entry, available resources include gridded population estimates for countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Nigeria, Niger, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Mali, Zambia, Burkina Faso, and Kenya; spatially integrated displacement datasets for Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo; an age-structured population dataset for Burkina Faso to support vaccination planning; and a global GRID3 Gridded Population Estimates Image Service. Most population products provide gridded population estimates at approximately 100-meter spatial resolution, with categories including Total and Age/Sex population estimates.
Many of the population datasets are produced by WorldPop, while the global image service states that the data were produced by the WorldPop Research Group at the University of Southampton as part of the GRID3 project. Individual datasets have their own methodologies, which are available on their respective dataset pages.
