Dataset
To provide information on boreholes in Nairobi County, Kenya to support groundwater management, water resource planning, infrastructure assessment, and decision-making related to groundwater development and use.
It provides extracted information on boreholes within Nairobi County and contributes to improving transparency and accessibility of groundwater-related information in Kenya. The dataset forms part of broader efforts to make water infrastructure data publicly available through open data initiatives.
The dataset contains information on 2,632 mapped boreholes located within Nairobi County. Available resources include an Excel dataset containing borehole records and a PDF containing extracted master records and supporting documentation. The data provide information on the spatial distribution of boreholes across Nairobi's former administrative units, including divisions, locations, and sub-locations.
The borehole inventory was developed by combining two existing borehole datasets, resulting in 2,632 boreholes identified as being located within Nairobi County. Geographic Information System (GIS) methods, specifically the ArcGIS Spatial Join tool, were used to assign boreholes to administrative units and calculate the number of boreholes within each division, location, and sub-location.
