Dataset Objective

To show snow extent on earth's surface.

Context

Data covers the period 1978-2005.

What is included

Dataset contains land areas with no snow cover indicated in light brown, lakes and oceans are light gray and colors showing how many millimeters of water you would get if you converted all of that snow to liquid water: white areas show the highest values (more than 250 mm) and dark, blue-gray areas show low values (down to 1 mm).

Collection Methods

Data is obtained by the Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR) and selected Special Sensor Microwave/.image(.png, .jpg), .image(.png, .jpg)rs (SSM/I).
