Dataset Objective

To investigate the amount of marine litter accumulated in the beaches in Umhlanga and Amanzimtoti, South Africa.

Context

This survey was conducted as part of the Commonwealth Litter Programme (CLiP) in collaboration with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).

What is included

This dataset contains the abundance and composition of marine litter found in South Africa during the Commonwealth Litter Programme (CLiP) study conducted in Umhlanga and Amanzimtoti, South Africa. Data entails the plastic categories of litter (rubber, textile, paper, wood, metal, glass, ceramic, sanitary, medical, and other categories) and their total weight in kilograms. GPS locations and other attributes are also included.
