Bathymetry is the measurement of how deep the water is at various places and the shape of the land underwater. In these maps, different shades of color represent different water depths.
Dataset contains distance from the ocean surface to the sea floor at evenly spaced increments of longitude and latitude. Different shades of color represent different water depths, deeper waters appear in dark blue, while shallower waters appear in light blue.
Data is obtained by collecting sounding using sonar devices to emit a sound wave that passes into the water.
