Dataset
To provide a national geospatial inventory of water points in Kenya to support the mapping, monitoring, and analysis of water supply infrastructure and access to water services.
The dataset is available through the Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX) and is associated with the Water Point Data Exchange (WPDx), a platform for sharing standardized water-point data. The Kenya dataset brings together water-point information contributed by organizations working across the country, providing a consolidated resource for understanding the geographic distribution and characteristics of water infrastructure. It can support planning, monitoring, spatial analysis, and identification of areas where water infrastructure may be limited.
The dataset provides two resources. (1) Water-point-level information for records shared with WPDx, including WPDx Data Standard parameters and results from the Rehab Priority, Service Gap/New Construction, and Status Prediction analyses. (2) Administrative-level analysis of the population served, unserved, and uncharted, together with an assessment of data quality based on the age of water-point records. The HDX page also provides an interactive WPDx decision-support map for exploring the data spatially.
The data are compiled from water-point inventories and assessments submitted by contributing organizations to WPDx. Submitted datasets are standardized and integrated into the WPDx data structure to facilitate consistent analysis across different sources. Because the dataset is assembled from multiple contributors, the specific variables, collection methods, assessment dates, and level of detail can vary between records. The resulting dataset provides a consolidated geospatial inventory rather than a single survey conducted using one methodology.
