Dataset
To provide a national overview of Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) regulatory activities, compliance trends, violations, inspections, and enforcement actions for public water systems across the United States.
The dashboard is part of the EPA Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO) platform and was developed to improve transparency and public access to drinking water compliance information reported under the Safe Drinking Water Act by states, tribes, territories, and EPA regulatory programs.
The dashboard includes information on public water systems, inspections, reported violations, enforcement actions, compliance status, contaminant violations, monitoring and reporting violations, public notice violations, and system characteristics such as population served and system type.
The data are collected by public water systems and submitted to state or tribal primacy agencies as part of Safe Drinking Water Act reporting requirements. Primacy agencies then report compliance, monitoring, enforcement, and violation information to EPA’s SDWIS/Fed database, which feeds the ECHO dashboard.
