To provide information on groundwater resources, aquifers, and groundwater monitoring conditions on Native Lands in the United States to support tribal land management and water resource planning.
The dashboard was developed to address the need for accessible groundwater information for Native Lands, where understanding aquifer conditions, groundwater availability, and long-term water security is important for tribal planning, climate adaptation, safe drinking water, land management, and environmental protection.
The dashboard includes groundwater monitoring well data from the National Ground-Water Monitoring Network (NGWMN), principal aquifer datasets, aquifers of alluvial and glacial origin, groundwater depth measurements, historic groundwater level comparisons, and geospatial information on Native Lands overlapping major aquifer systems in the United States. It includes 64 aquifer types, 376 Native Land areas, 13 years of comparative data, 3 data visualizations, and 72,192 possible visualizations
The data were collected from the USGS National Ground-Water Monitoring Network (NGWMN), National Water Information System (NWIS), national aquifer datasets, and U.S. Census TIGER/Line boundary files. Groundwater monitoring data were aggregated from local, state, and federal monitoring organizations.
