Dataset
To provide open access to geospatial datasets, maps, and spatial analysis resources that support mapping, environmental monitoring, planning, research, and sustainable development across Africa.
The Africa GeoPortal is an open mapping community powered by Esri that was developed to improve access to African geospatial data and analytical tools. The platform brings together datasets contributed by Esri, Africa-focused organizations, institutions, and users to support GIS applications and spatial decision-making across the continent.
The platform hosts a large collection of geospatial datasets, web maps, imagery, dashboards, and spatial layers covering themes such as environment, water, climate, agriculture, demographics, health, biodiversity, disasters, infrastructure, and land use. Data can be filtered by country, theme, or geographic region.
The datasets are compiled from multiple sources, including Esri, governmental agencies, research institutions, NGOs, regional organizations, satellite-derived products, and user-contributed GIS datasets. The platform aggregates and disseminates existing geospatial information rather than collecting primary field data directly
