To provide an online mapping tool that supports the protection of drinking water sources by helping users identify drinking water providers, potential contamination sources, polluted waterways, and watershed conditions across the United States
DWMAPS was developed by the U.S. EPA as part of national source water protection efforts to support state drinking water programs, utilities, watershed groups, and source water collaboratives in updating source water assessments and protection plans.
The platform includes geospatial layers and mapping tools related to drinking water providers, watersheds, impaired waters, potential sources of contamination, type of community water system, health-based violations, source of water, population served by the system, and system information, polluted waterways, and watershed protection projects
The platform aggregates and integrates existing environmental and drinking water datasets from EPA programs, USGS, state drinking water agencies, watershed databases, regulatory reporting systems, hydrographic datasets, and geospatial mapping services.
