To provide geospatial information and project tracking tool related to sanitation infrastructure and environmental engineering services for American Indian and Alaska Native communities in the United States.
The GIS Hub is associated with the Indian Health Service (IHS) Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction (DSFC), which administers the nationwide Sanitation Facilities Construction (SFC) Program established under Public Law 86-121 in 1959. The program supports the development of safe water supply, wastewater disposal, and solid waste infrastructure for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
The platform includes project locations, project descriptions, project phases, funding amounts, tribes served, number of homes served, and infrastructure activities related to drinking water systems, wastewater systems, and solid waste facilities serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Data are updated regularly from the IHS DSFC Sanitation Tracking and Reporting System (STARS)
The data are compiled from Indian Health Service sanitation project records, environmental engineering activities, infrastructure planning documents, and project management systems maintained by the DSFC and IHS Area Offices. Geographic information is integrated into ArcGIS Hub mapping services for visualization and tracking
