To provide public access to water quality and ecosystem monitoring information for California in order to support environmental management, water resource protection, scientific assessment, and informed decision-making
The platform was developed through the California Water Quality Monitoring Council, established in 2007 by the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) and the California Natural Resources Agency under Senate Bill 1070.
The platform provides access to California water quality data, monitoring tools, dashboards, maps, and thematic workgroups focused on topics such as harmful algal blooms, safe swimming, safe drinking water, environmental flows, estuary monitoring, wetland monitoring, post-fire water quality, healthy watersheds, and water quality collaboration networks.
The data are collected through coordinated water quality and ecosystem monitoring programs conducted by California state agencies, regional water boards, local governments, federal agencies, research institutions, watershed organizations, and community monitoring programs.
