To provide geospatial data on publicly accessible waste skips in Blantyre, Malawi to support solid waste management research, planning, logistics, and spatial analysis.
The dataset was developed because publicly available information on waste skip locations in Blantyre was previously lacking, making it difficult to support waste management planning and logistics. The project forms part of the openwashdata initiative, which publishes open WASH-related datasets for research and decision-making.
The dataset contains geospatial information on 53 publicly accessible waste skips in Blantyre, Malawi. Variables include the waste skip location name, longitude, latitude, and container capacity in liters.
The data were collected in 2021 through mapping and identification of publicly accessible waste skips within the city of Blantyre. The compiled locations were structured into a geospatial dataset for analysis and visualization
