Dataset
To provide an overview of open research data availability and open science practices in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) research publications.
The dataset was developed through the OpenWashData initiative to improve discoverability, accessibility, and reuse of open research data in the WASH sector. It supports FAIR data principles and broader efforts to strengthen open science and reproducible research practices in WASH.
The package contains two datasets, washdev and uncnewsletter, which compile information on WASH-related scientific publications. The datasets include article metadata (e.g., title, journal, publication year, authors, affiliations), supplementary material information, data availability statements, repository links, keywords, and semantic information related to open research data practices. The washdev dataset contains 924 open-access articles published in the Journal of Water, Sanitation & Hygiene for Development between 2011 and 2023.
The data were collected through web scraping, rule-based extraction, and manual annotation of scientific publications and newsletter archives. Publication webpages were analyzed to retrieve metadata, supplementary material information, data availability statements, and semantic descriptors associated with open research data
