To provide survey data about the behavior and practices of managing sanitation facilties in two low-income areas of Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
The dataset was developed through the openwashdata initiative to improve access to household-level sanitation data and better understand sanitation management practices, facility use, and sanitation-related health conditions in low-income urban communities in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The dataset contains household survey data from 207 households located in Abobo (101 households) and Yopougon (106 households), two low-income areas of Abidjan. It includes 25 variables covering sanitation facility type and location, latrine sharing practices, number of users, impacts of sharing facilities, cleaning responsibilities and frequency, septic tank presence and location, number and condition of latrines, emptying frequency and methods, emptying costs, wastewater disposal practices, solid waste containment and disposal, and commonly reported illnesses within households
The data were collected through household surveys conducted in low-income communities in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The survey focused on household behaviors and practices related to management of sanitation facilities, particularly latrines and septic tanks, as well as sanitation-related health conditions.
