Dataset
To provide experimental data on the drying behaviour of faecal / fecal sludge and fresh faeces to support sanitation engineering research, faecal sludge treatment design, and resource recovery studies
It contributes to research on treatment technologies for faecal sludge and fresh faeces and supports evidence-based design of sanitation treatment and resource recovery systems.
The dataset contains experimental data on faecal sludge and fresh faeces drying studies, including metadata on experimental setup and sample characteristics. Variables include experiment identifiers, chapter and experiment type, location and date of experimentation, associated publications and source links, faecal material type, collection location, sample age, moisture content, total solids, volatile solids, ash content, presence of trash, and pre-treatment conditions. Additional variables document dewatering and drying experiments and the physical and chemical properties of the faecal material under different treatment conditions.
The data were collected through laboratory dewatering and drying experiments on faecal sludge and fresh faeces conducted at multiple study sites. Experimental procedures included centrifugation using a HERMLE Z323 centrifuge at 5,000 RPM for 120 minutes with 40 g of sample per centrifuge tube, alongside other drying and treatment experiments designed to evaluate moisture removal and sludge characteristics.
