To provide data on rehabilitation, chlorination, and post-flood assessment of rural handpump-equipped water points in Mulanje District, Malawi to support WASH monitoring
The dataset originates from the USAID Flood Response Rehabilitation and Chlorination Survey conducted in Mulanje District, Malawi, following flood-related impacts on rural water infrastructure. It was developed to document rehabilitation activities, chlorination interventions, water point conditions, and environmental risks associated with flood-affected water sources.
The dataset "floodchlorinationsurvey" contains 328 observations and 118 variables. Variables include water point names, GPS coordinates, rehabilitation and chlorination dates, community mobilization activities, functionality status before and after rehabilitation, borehole component condition assessments, replacement of handpump parts, chlorination procedures, borehole depth, water depth, environmental risk factors (e.g., nearby latrines, cemeteries, waste dumps), civil works observations, photos of rehabilitation activities, water access indicators, and post-rehabilitation functionality measures such as bucket filling time and pump strokes required to yield water.
The data were collected between 2019 and 2020 using the mWater mobile platform by field teams working to assess, rehabilitate, and chlorinate rural handpump-equipped water points affected by flooding in Mulanje District, Malawi. GPS locations, photographs, infrastructure condition assessments, rehabilitation activities, chlorination records, and post-rehabilitation performance indicators were recorded during field visits
