To provide public access to water-related datasets and information resources that support water resource management in California
The Water Group is a thematic collection within California's Open Data Portal that aggregates water-related datasets published by California state agencies and programs. The portal serves as a centralized access point for hundreds of water datasets covering water resources, water quality, infrastructure, regulatory monitoring, and environmental management across the state.
The portal contains more than 500 water-related datasets and associated geospatial resources. Dataset types include groundwater monitoring data, surface water monitoring data, drinking water system records, water quality measurements, water conservation data, water use and consumption statistics, reservoir and storage information, streamflow and hydrologic observations, watershed datasets, groundwater sustainability data, drought monitoring information, water infrastructure inventories, wastewater and recycled water datasets, flood management data, regulatory compliance records, environmental monitoring data, permitting information, and GIS mapping layers.
The datasets are collected and maintained by multiple California agencies through environmental monitoring programs, water quality testing, groundwater and surface water monitoring networks, hydrologic observation systems, regulatory reporting processes, infrastructure inventories, remote sensing activities, and water system operational reporting. The portal aggregates these datasets and makes them publicly accessible through a centralized platform.
