The Natural Resources Group is a thematic collection within California’s Open Data Portal that aggregates datasets published by California state agencies and natural resource programs. The portal serves as a centralized access point for environmental, ecological, geospatial, and natural resource information supporting management of California’s land, biodiversity, forests, wildlife, climate, and natural ecosystems
The portal contains more than 3,300 natural resource datasets covering topics such as wildlife monitoring, biodiversity conservation, land use and land cover, forests and forestry management, wildfire and vegetation data, geology, soil resources, climate and precipitation data, renewable energy resources, protected areas, conservation easements, recreation resources, ecosystem monitoring, habitat mapping, environmental restoration, coastal and ocean resources, natural hazards, public lands, agricultural land conservation, and GIS mapping layers.
The datasets are collected and maintained by multiple California agencies through environmental monitoring programs, ecological surveys, biodiversity assessments, climate observation systems, land management activities, geospatial mapping programs, conservation initiatives, remote sensing technologies, and regulatory reporting processes. The Open Data Portal aggregates these datasets and makes them publicly accessible through a centralized platform.
