To provide data on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) conditions and management practices in Community-Based Childcare Centres (CBCCs) in Thyolo and Chikwawa districts, Malawi
The survey was conducted in 2021 to assess water supply, sanitation facilities, hygiene practices, governance arrangements, and management systems within childcare centres that support early childhood development. Data were collected by BASEFlow using the mWater digital data collection platform.
The dataset contains 118 observations and 98 variables, with each record representing a Community-Based Childcare Centre (CBCC). Variables include survey metadata and geographical location, water sources and their functionality, water access conditions, sanitation infrastructure, handwashing and hygiene facilities, cleanliness assessments, governance and management structures, funding mechanisms, operation and maintenance arrangements, and the availability of hygiene education and promotional materials. The dataset also includes information on WASH-related management practices and facility conditions within CBCCs.
The data were collected in 2021 by BASEFlow Malawi using the mWater digital data collection platform. Survey teams conducted assessments of Community-Based Childcare Centres in Thyolo and Chikwawa districts, documenting WASH infrastructure, functionality, management arrangements, hygiene practices, and facility conditions.
