To provide field-level data on the status, functionality, flood impacts, and water quality of rural water points in Malawi
The dataset contains water point assessment records from flood-affected areas in seven districts of southern Malawi: Zomba, Mangochi, Chikwawa, Balaka, Nsanje, Blantyre, and Machinga
The dataset contains 684 observations and 45 variables, with each record representing a single visit to a rural water point. Variables include water point names, GPS coordinates, number of users served, photographs of water points, indicators of flood submersion and erosion, functionality status, pumpability during the visit, reported water quality, pump and civil works problems, repair needs, operational condition, time required to pump 20 litres, number of strokes required to yield water, sediment presence, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, pH, fluoride, ammonia, nitrate, free chlorine, arsenic, turbidity, temperature, sample type, microbial contamination results (MPN/100 ml), health risk categories, field comments, and image-based water quality test results. The dataset also includes photo links documenting infrastructure condition and testing outcomes.
The data were collected between 2019 and 2020 using the mWater mobile data collection platform. Field teams conducted GPS-tagged assessments of rural water points, recording infrastructure conditions, flood impacts, functionality indicators, water quality measurements, microbial contamination test results, photographs, and enumerator observations directly in the field.
