To provide time-series groundwater monitoring data from observation wells across Malawi to support groundwater resource management
Groundwater is a critical source of water for domestic supply, agriculture, and economic development in Malawi. This dataset was developed by BASEflow to provide continuous monitoring of groundwater conditions across multiple districts using automated monitoring technology. The dataset supports analysis of aquifer behavior, seasonal recharge and depletion patterns, groundwater quality trends, and long-term groundwater resource sustainability
The dataset contains 1,415 observations and 9 variables collected from groundwater monitoring wells across 10 districts in Malawi between 2024 and 2025. Variables include date of measurement, waterpoint name, district, latitude, longitude, source of measurement (automated logger), groundwater level, groundwater temperature, and electrical conductivity. Each record represents a time-series measurement captured from a monitoring well, enabling analysis of groundwater level fluctuations, groundwater temperature dynamics, and conductivity trends over time
The data were captured using automated data loggers installed in monitoring wells and were collected and managed by BASEflow.
