To provide public access to water-related geospatial datasets and information resources that support water resource management, watershed planning, and environmental monitoring.
The Water category is part of the Arkansas Spatial Data Infrastructure managed by the Arkansas GIS Office. It serves as a centralized repository for water-related GIS datasets produced by state and federal agencies, including hydrology, watersheds, flood hazards, water quality, and drinking water infrastructure data. The collection supports government agencies, researchers, utilities, planners, and environmental managers working on water resource issues across Arkansas.
The portal contains more than 50 water-related datasets covering a wide range of water resource themes. Dataset types include watershed boundary datasets (8-digit and 12-digit HUCs), National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) flowlines and waterbodies, rivers, streams, lakes, reservoirs, hydrographic landmarks, stream order classifications, flood hazard zones, base flood elevations, impaired waters (303(d) lists), water quality monitoring datasets, public water system boundaries, and hydrologic reference layers. Resources are available as GIS feature layers, downloadable datasets, REST services, and mapping products that support both spatial and hydrologic analysis.
The datasets are compiled from multiple state and federal sources, including the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment, Arkansas GIS Office, USGS National Hydrography Dataset, watershed mapping programs, water quality monitoring networks, floodplain mapping initiatives, and environmental assessment programs. Data are generated through field surveys, environmental monitoring, GIS mapping, remote sensing, watershed delineation, hydrologic modelling, and regulatory reporting activities.
