The portal serves as the central data hub of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). The agency's environmental protection, pollution control, remediation, and regulatory decisions are based on scientific monitoring, environmental assessments, and data collected by MPCA staff and partner organizations. The portal consolidates access to environmental datasets, monitoring programs, visualizations, reports, and environmental information systems across multiple environmental sectors.
The portal provides access to a wide range of environmental data resources and repositories. These include surface water quality data for lakes, rivers, and streams; groundwater monitoring data; groundwater contamination records; air monitoring data for pollutants and monitoring stations; environmental permits and registrations; contaminated properties; hazardous waste sites; petroleum storage tank and leak sites; landfill information; waste management and recycling statistics; environmental data visualizations; volunteer water monitoring programs; and environmental reports and assessments. The portal also provides access to interactive mapping tools such as "What's in My Neighborhood," which integrates environmental permits, contamination records, inspections, and enforcement information across Minnesota
Environmental data are collected through statewide monitoring networks, field sampling programs, laboratory analyses, environmental inspections, regulatory reporting systems, groundwater monitoring stations, surface water monitoring programs, air quality monitoring stations, and partner-led monitoring initiatives. The MPCA operates under a formal Quality System that includes a Quality Management Plan (QMP), Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), standard operating procedures, laboratory quality-control requirements, and data-quality review processes to ensure that environmental data are accurate, reliable, and scientifically defensible.
