To provide public access to geospatial datasets related to North Dakota's water resources
The Water Resources Collection is part of the North Dakota GIS Hub, the state's centralized geospatial data platform. The collection brings together water-related datasets maintained by agencies such as the North Dakota Department of Water Resources, North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, and North Dakota Game and Fish Department.
The collection contains datasets related to watersheds, surface water resources, groundwater monitoring, drinking water protection, and water infrastructure. Examples of available datasets include HUC12 subwatershed boundaries, rural water district service areas, lakes and ponds, river mile reference data, groundwater monitoring sites, non-community source water protection areas, and surface water sampling sites.
Datasets are compiled and maintained by North Dakota state agencies through watershed delineation programs, groundwater monitoring networks, surface water sampling programs, drinking water protection initiatives, hydrologic assessments, GIS mapping activities, and environmental monitoring efforts. Data are collected through field surveys, monitoring stations, sampling programs, geospatial analysis, and administrative records, then published through the North Dakota GIS Hub for public access and use.
