The Energy & Environment Collection is one of the primary categories within New York State's Open Data Portal (Open NY). Open NY hosts more than 1,500 catalog items from over 60 state agencies and authorities.
The collection contains a broad range of datasets related to energy systems, waste management, environmental infrastructure, natural resources, and environmental monitoring throughout New York State. Available resources include solid waste management facilities, landfills, composting facilities, biosolids processing facilities, household hazardous waste facilities, regulated medical waste facilities, transfer stations, utility service territories, solar energy projects, alternative fuel stations, energy generation facilities, energy consumption data, renewable energy programs, oil and gas information, biodiversity datasets, and other environmental and natural resource datasets.
Datasets are collected and maintained by numerous New York State agencies and authorities through environmental monitoring programs, utility reporting systems, energy project tracking programs, natural resource inventories, regulatory reporting requirements, biodiversity surveys, and administrative data collection activities. Data are standardized and published through Open NY
