The Texas Natural Resources Information System (TNRIS), now operating as the Texas Geographic Information Office (TxGIO), serves as Texas's official geospatial data clearinghouse. Established in 1968 and administered through the Texas Water Development Board, it was created to provide a centralized information system for natural resource and geographic data collected by state agencies and other organizations. The DataHub serves as the primary platform for distributing statewide GIS datasets and mapping resources.
The DataHub contains a large collection of statewide geospatial datasets covering administrative boundaries, hydrography, elevation, imagery, land parcels, address points, transportation networks, water resources, and other foundational mapping layers. Available resources include Texas state and county boundaries, rivers, streams, and waterbodies, lidar-derived elevation datasets, aerial imagery, land parcel boundaries, address points, and statewide basemap layers. The portal provides downloadable GIS datasets, web services, and mapping resources that support environmental management, water-resource planning, emergency management, infrastructure development, land administration, and geospatial analysis throughout Texas.
Datasets are developed through the Strategic Mapping Program (StratMap), state agency partnerships, local government contributions, aerial imagery acquisition programs, lidar surveys, parcel aggregation efforts, hydrographic mapping initiatives, and other geospatial data collection activities. TNRIS standardizes, integrates, and distributes data from numerous authoritative sources to create consistent statewide GIS resources.
