To provide public access to Alaska's water resources data, water use information, groundwater records, hydrologic data, and water rights information
The Water Data & Reporting portal is maintained by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land, and Water. It serves as the central repository for hydrologic and water-resource information collected by the Alaska Hydrologic Survey and the Water Management Unit.
The portal provides access to multiple water-resource databases and reporting systems covering surface water, groundwater, water use, water quality, and water rights. Available resources include the Alaska Water Use Data System (AKWUDS) for monthly water-use reporting, the Alaska Groundwater Database containing groundwater levels and temperatures, the Well Log Tracking System (WELTS) for water well logs and aquifer information, water quality datasets for surface water and groundwater, streamflow measurement records, lake datasets, water rights and temporary water-use authorization records, the Water Rights Map, hydrologic reports, the Streams Database, and the ARID database containing stream characteristics. Together, these resources provide hydrologic observations, groundwater information, water-use records, water-quality data, and regulatory information supporting water-resource management throughout Alaska.
Data are collected through statewide hydrologic surveys, groundwater monitoring programs, streamflow measurements, water-quality sampling, well log submissions, water-use reporting by water-right holders, and water-right permitting processes. The Alaska Hydrologic Survey compiles, analyzes, and maintains hydrologic information, while regulatory data are submitted through AKWUDS, WELTS, and the state's water-rights administration system.
