To provide public access to GIS datasets that support water resource management and environmental planning
The SRWMD Data Directory is maintained by the Suwannee River Water Management District as the District's official repository of downloadable GIS datasets. The database was developed to support planning, environmental management, hydrologic studies, regulatory programs, and natural resource conservation while making spatial data available to government agencies, researchers, consultants, and the public. Data are distributed primarily as GIS datasets accompanied by metadata documentation.
The directory contains downloadable GIS datasets organized into several thematic categories. These include basemap layers (Public Land Survey System and political boundaries); natural resource datasets such as aquatic oysters, seagrass, topography, Floridan Aquifer potentiometric surfaces, aquifer recharge, springs and seeps, hydrography, hydrologic surface water basins, wetlands, and multiple land use/land cover datasets (1988, 1995, 2004, and 2010); and regulatory datasets including FEMA Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs) for multiple counties and Water Resource Caution Areas. The directory also links users to complementary resources such as aerial imagery, National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), National Elevation Dataset (NED), NRCS soil surveys, USGS topographic maps, real-time river and lake levels, groundwater monitoring, rainfall data, flood mapping, permits, and the District's Water Data Portal.
Datasets are compiled from SRWMD monitoring programs, GIS mapping activities, hydrologic investigations, regulatory programs, land cover mapping, hydrogeologic studies, and collaborations with federal and state agencies such as the USGS, FEMA, NRCS, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Spatial datasets are maintained in standardized GIS formats with accompanying metadata and are made available for download through the District's Data Directory.
